Issue 4/2005

Index 1995-2005

Editorial

The first issue of our magazine came out in April 1995, then under the name “springer”. The picture of a chameleon adorning the cover suggested a versatility that has been amply demonstrated in the more than 42 issues that have followed. Before the retrospective gaze unfolds a long, varied journey characterised by the constant endeavour to open up new themes and geographical focuses. Since 1998, “springer” has been called “springerin”. This was not only a change of name, but also a change of those in charge of the project; since then, responsibility has rested with the magazine’s producers.
For our tenth anniversary, we have tried – in this complete index of all the volumes of our magazine – to give a comprehensible overview of the various configurations of themes and content, personnel and editorial staff in which and with which we have been working since 1995. While compiling it, we were often amazed at how early we became aware of contemporary developments and yet untrodden paths. The focus of our interest, however, has always been on negotiating the status of critical art and its discourses. This index, which lists the names of all the people and institutions, authors and staff, artists and theorists that occur in the printed issues of our magazines and makes it possible to find where they are mentioned, is intended as a gesture of gratitude to all the people who have supported us. Without their help, we would not be able to look back today on the ten-year history of our project – which in 1995 would have seemed barely possible.
